The first RobotChallenge took place on 19th of June 2004 at the Higher Technical School at Spengergasse in Vienna. It was rather an internal competition of pupils around Dr. Herbert Hörtlehner, a Professor at this school.

The robots had to reach a beacon at the end of an obstacle course as fast as possible. They had to act completely autonomously, that means without any human interaction such as remote control.
