Frequently Asked Questions

Is data transmission from/to the robot allowed?

No. The robot has to act completely autonomously. All the equipment necessary has to be on board. Data transmission in order to log or visualise data is also forbidden.

Is the use of robot kits allowed?

The robot has to be develeoped and designed by the team itself. The usage of commercially available modules is allowed, but it is forbidden to use a complete robotic-system which is sold ready for the purpose of the competition. At least the software-development should show significant personal effort.

Parallel Slalom / Slalom Enhanced: How accurate must the robot follow the line?

The flags must be passed in terms of the line. If the robot loses the line for a moment, it should not be a problem. Important is that the robot reaches the finishing line by passing all the flags on the intended side.

Mini Sumo: How much free space will be around the field?

Due to not be irritated by persons or objects very close to the field, there is a minimum free space of 50 cm around the field.

May there be steps or cracks on the course?

Yes. We tried to produce the course as exact as possible. Although, as the course is composed of single plates, there could be minimal steps or cracks (max. 2mm). The edges of the pucks (Puck Collect) are slant. Therefore it should be possible to push the pucks beyond the borders of the plates. But we cannot guarantee this.

Is there an age limitation for the RobotChallenge?

No, neither in the one nor in the other direction.

Has the robot to compete in all disciplines?

No. You can register for each discipline independently.

May I use a beacon for Puck Collect?

No.

My robot is a big too big. Is it possible to participate anyway?

For Sumo and Puck Collect, the robot must not exceed the size limits at all. For Parallel Slalom and Slalom Enhanced, exemptions can be made after discussion with the organiser (e-mail to contact@innoc.at).

How much are the attendance fees?

Attendance and entrance is free.

Puck Collect: When is a puck counted as "on the home base"?

Basically, every Puck is counted which is situated unmoved and in its entirety anywhere in the airspace above the homebase. Therefore pucks need not to be unloaded. An Exception exists for the special rules "red card" and "own goal" during the match (not after timeout): these rules are applied for pucks only which lie unmoved and in its entirety direct on the red respectively blue plate.

Is it possible that a competition will be cancelled because of a lack of participants?

Theoretically yes. A competition will take place for three or more participants.

May I visit the Challenge without a robot?

Of course. All interested visitors are welcome. Entrance free!

Will competitions take place simultanously?

During Qualification it is possible that two rounds are short after each other or taking place concurrently. While planning the Qualification rounds we try to consider robots which take part in multiple competitions.
